World Cup 2018 More Languages Needed than….

This time, for the World Cup 2018, the amount of language combinations needed has been a record one.
Interpreters have been used from Arabic into Spanish, Russian into English. Icelandic to Croatian,
Korean to German, Portuguese to Serbian, Spanish to English, German, French, Iranian and other languages to Portuguese & Spanish.
Russian to all languages of participants and vice-versa, English to French, and a multitude of other combinations such as Japanese to French & English and most languages to Dutch and Italian for their TV shows.
And for the last 16 the most translated from and into languages up to now are: Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Swedish, (the 3 languages spoken in Switzerland – runners up in Group E),Danish, and Croatian.
It is a busy, busy time for interpreters and translators!
More languages than ever have been needed for this World Cup.
And we – the interpreters’ community are now ready to help as well for the 2022 World Cup.
