Artificial Intelligence? Not yet.

Artificial Intelligence is working its way into everything, including translation and interpreting. However it is a long way from superseding or replacing simultaneous / conference interpreters. Various attempts show that although progress is being made AI can’t cope when relay is taking place. Relay occurs all the time when you have more than two languages and most international events require four, five or more languages.

No doubt technology advances rapidly but in the complicated world of conference interpreting it will take a while to work out an AI replacement.
